April 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). While SAAM was formally recognized 25 years ago, its roots trace back to the civil rights era when survivors and advocates first organized to confront sexual violence and demand change.
This year’s theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” honors the progress that has been made and reaffirms our commitment to prevention, healing, and action. Sexual violence, including assault, harassment, and abuse, remains widespread and is most often perpetrated by someone the survivor knows, which reminds us why this work is still urgent.
As we reflect on 25 years of SAAM, we invite you to learn, take action, and stand in solidarity with survivors. Together, we can continue building a future where everyone is safe, valued, and respected.
